WINONA LAKE — People may hear from a number of different musicians at The Village at Winona’s Jazz Festival.
It runs 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at the Winona Heritage Room, 901 Park Ave.
Acts include headliner the Bill Frisell trio, with Gregory Tardy and Tim Angulo, performing from 2:30-4 p.m. According to information on The Village at Winona’s website, guitarist Frisell is “recognized as one of America’s 21 most vital and productive performing artists.”
He’s performed for more than 40 years and served as resident artistic director at San Francisco Jazz.
Returning to the festival will be the Truth in Jazz Big Band performing from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Grace College’s Dr. Wally Brath, who runs the school’s worship arts and music production programs, will perform from 1-2:30 p.m.
“I am presenting a jazz Psalms set I composed for a project last year,” he said. “Jazz is an amazing idiom to experience the Psalms because of the emotional depth the musicians can communicate through the music. I guarantee no one has interacted with the Psalms in this way before.”
Admission to the festival is free, with food available for sale.
