UPDATE: Bomb Threat At Kmart
Members of the Warsaw Police Department, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory and Multi-Township EMS were called to Kmart in Warsaw where a bomb threat was called in at approximately 5:54 p.m.
All stores and businesses in the Lake Village Shopping Center were evacuated at the time of the threat and parking lot barricades were established by firefighters.
The suspect allegedly told a store employee that the bomb would detonate at approximately 6:15 p.m. According to a statement provided by WPD Public Information Officer Kip Shuter, the threat was received through a phone call. Shuter stated that the employee who took the 10-15 minute call stated that the caller had a Middle Eastern accent and instructed the employee not to call the police or inform other employees. The caller refused to give his name, description or the location of the alleged bomb.
The store was searched and no evidence of a bomb was found. Kmart also advised police that multiple Kmart’s nationwide have received similar bomb threats and all stores had been notified of the threats.
The scene was cleared by about 7:30 p.m. and the store stated it would re-open tonight at approximately 7:45 p.m.
The investigation is ongoing by WPD Investigations Division.
