WARSAW — Kosciusko Board of Realtors built an obstacle course at the therapeutic horseback riding facility Magical Meadows on Thursday, Sept. 5.
KBOR‘s approximately 30 volunteers also power-washed, weed-whacked and painted at Magical Meadows. During an unexpected burst of rain, the volunteers went indoors and cleaned the barn.
“It’s gonna be a nice area for us to enrich our lessons and work with our riders and horses,” said Magical Meadows’ Executive Director Michael Kuhn.
Magical Meadows uses horseback riding to develop skills for children and adults with physical and mental challenges. The obstacle course features a bridge, step-over obstacles, ropes and more. The course will benefit riders’ coordination, strength, gross and fine motor skills, and help them build trust and communication with the horses.
KBOR Community Outreach Committee Chair Angie Jarrett said that KBOR wanted to get people together and volunteer and they were pleased with the great turnout. She stated they wanted to bring more community exposure to Magical Meadows, commenting that not everyone knows about its services.
“This one is near and dear to my heart because my daughter rides here,” Jarrett said. She stated that several riders can ride independently and will benefit from a challenge and trying something new.
There are many opportunities for individuals and groups to volunteer at Magical Meadows to help with facility upkeep. Individuals with experience with, or interest in learning about, children with disabilities and horses are encouraged to volunteer as well.
“As a nonprofit, we rely volunteer work to keep us going,” said Kuhn. “We are extremely thankful for (KBOR) spending their time here, which we know is the most valuable commodity.”
