Dean Bammerlin
Dean Bammerlin, 95, rural Roann, passed peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, at his residence.
Dean was born on Aug. 31, 1929, in Akron, to the late Robert and Verna (Shrout) Bammerlin. He was a 1947 graduate of Akron High School.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On Nov. 15, 1953, in Peru, he married Janet G. Butt, who preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 2004.
Dean was a farmer, milking Holstein cows and raising hogs, as well as growing grain. He was a longtime member of the Olive Branch Church and also attended the Chili Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Lincoln Masonic Lodge of Macy and the Laketon American Legion Post 402.
He could be found many days at the Gilead Store enjoying a cup of coffee and sharing stories. Dean enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, coon hunting, fishing, golfing at Highland Hills and spending quality time with his family.
He was honored in October 2014 as a part of an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
Survivors include his children, Susan and husband Rob Criswell, Akron, Karen and husband Doug Draper, Roann, and Jay Bammerlin and Mikael Badgett, Fort Wayne; grandchildren Lori LaFollette, Sara Hampton and Alan Rensberger; eight great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and very special friend Joy Canada and her family.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; wife Janet; and brother Dale.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery with military honors performed. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
