Pilgrims Topple Trojans
PLYMOUTH – The Triton girls basketball team suffered its first loss of the season at Plymouth Thursday night.
The host Pilgrims defeated the Class 1-A No. 9 Trojans 45-39 in a close, non-conference matchup.
Triton, now 2-1 on the season, led 12-11 after the opening period and 19-18 at halftime. The Pilgrims took a 30-29 lead after the third quarter and then outscored Triton 15-10 in the final stanza.
Taylor Hatfield netted 11 points to lead the way for the Triton offense.
Krystal Sellers scored eight points and Kylie Mason had seven for the Trojans. Both Mallorie Jennings and Lauren Hostrawser contributed six points for Triton.
Hunter Stevens had a big game with a game-high 21 points for Plymouth, now 2-0 on the season. Nicole Horvath had 10 points and Shannon Stephenson added eight for the winners.
Plymouth won the junior varsity contest 37-10.
Plymouth plays at Valparaiso Saturday night. Triton plays at NorthWood Tuesday night.
