PIERCETON — Pierceton Town Council approved a bid for the town’s upcoming sidewalk project during an Oct. 3 special council meeting.
Chad Salzbrenner, senior project manager at Fleis & VandenBrink, recommended the council approve the bid from Phend & Brown in the amount of $399,059.
The town received four bids for the construction of a six-foot-wide concrete sidewalk, with ADA ramps, on School Street to Third Street, and then on Third Street from School Street to Catholic Street. Phend & Brown’s presented bid was the lowest out of the four.
Salzbrenner said the bid was 4.13% higher than the engineer’s opinion of probable cost of $383,234, but said Phend & Brown was a qualified company to handle the project. He also noted it was a fair price for the expected work.
Kosciusko County Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Director Cori Humes also attended the meeting to request the town’s involvement in Clearly Kosciusko, a countywide brand to be used as a unifying county identifier and voice. She brought two “Clearly Kosciusko” signs and said the council could look into erecting them on existing road signs in town.
Council approved accepting the signs and placing them in town limits.
Pierceton Council’s next regular meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14.
