Warsaw Schools Teacher Receives Prestigious Fulbright Teachers Exchange Award
News Release
WARSAW — Warsaw Community Schools is proud to announce that Brenda A. Sanchez, a Multilingual Learners Teacher at Claypool and Eisenhower Elementary Schools, has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Teachers Exchange Award.
At the board work session on October 8, the Warsaw Community Schools school board recognized Sanchez for her achievements, highlighting her role in bringing global perspectives to WCS classrooms and her commitment to encouraging students to pursue their dreams.
The Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by IREX, equips K-12 educators to bring an international perspective to their classrooms. As part of the program, Sanchez will complete a semester-long course, “Teaching and Leading for Global Education,” participate in a professional development workshop in Washington, D.C. and travel abroad to immerse herself in another country’s culture and education system. This comprehensive experience will culminate in a Capstone Project designed to enhance global awareness and understanding within Warsaw Community Schools.
“I am beyond grateful to have an opportunity to broaden my perspectives, enrich my instruction, and create a more inclusive school community,” Sanchez shared. “Being recognized for a job that I considered my mission, fills me with gratitude. The WCS master’s scholarship provided me with the necessary credentials to qualify for this competitive program. I will be able to interact, collaborate, share and create best practices with other professionals. ”
Sanchez’s involvement in the Fulbright Program aligns perfectly with the WCS mission and its four strategic pillars: experience, empathy, inclusivity and adaptability. “Our world is interconnected,” Sanchez noted. “Students need the skills to interact, communicate, collaborate, and find solutions to challenges that affect us all. I hope my experience will empower students to pursue their dreams while contributing to a more understanding and respectful society.”
The international field experience for Sanchez’s Fulbright journey will be announced in December, with travel expected during the summer of 2025. Her top destination choices include Northern Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
