Barry L. Sapp — UPDATED
Barry L. Sapp, 70, of Pierceton, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Barry was born on Aug. 6, 1954, in Fort Wayne, to William Sapp and Pauline (Miller) Kreis. He was raised by Pauline and stepdad Boyd Kreis. He attended Whitko High School, class of 1973.
On Aug. 25, 1973, in Packerton, Barry married Carolyn G. Minnix. They were happily married for 43 years and welcomed three beautiful children. She would precede him in death in 2017.
Barry became a tool and dye journeyman and worked for Whitley Products, Zimmer and, lastly, retired from Omco. A few years into retirement, Barry began mowing for the County Highway Department during the summers when he was home from Florida.
In the back of a party bus on the way to Bourbon, Barry rekindled with a longtime friend, Kay Allen. The two finally made it official on Aug. 17, 2024, on the beach at Jellystone after dating for four years.
The couple wintered in Florida, and Barry could usually be found by the beach with his speaker with knobs. They loved being together playing corn hole and shuffleboard, and they played pool daily. They enjoyed camping at Jellystone and made many friends there and at Sugar Mill Campground in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. Barry had a larger-than-life personality, so people always gravitated to him. He adored being with his family and having a good time. Barry always made you feel like you were the most important person in a conversation and always gave his full attention. He loved being on his tractor, detailing his cars and dreaming about a sling shot.
Barry was ornery as all get-out, with a huge personality. He was always smiling, was loved by everyone, and he never knew a stranger. He had the greatest laugh and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was humble, was a “yes” man, was always there to help. Barry just always wanted to have fun and loved every moment in life.
He is survived by his wife, Kay; his children, Wendi (Angela) Sapp, Huntington, Shane (Jamie) Sapp, Cromwell, and Shawn (Shelley) Sapp, Larwill; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, with two on the way; stepchildren, Bobbi (Randy) Hart, of Pierceton, Tammi (Stephen) Roberts, of South Bend, and Crystal Allen, of Pierceton; seven step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren, with twins on the way; his siblings, Karen Myers and Sidney Kreis; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn; his parents; and his brother, Kenny Sapp.
