Elkhart Man Sentenced For United States Postal Service Offense
Press Release
SOUTH BEND — An Elkhart man was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Cristal C. Brisco after pleading guilty to delay of mail by a postal service employee.
Tyson Scott, 52, Elkhart, was sentenced to one year on probation.
According to documents in the case, Scott was working as a United States Postal Service carrier. In October 2023, he was entrusted to deliver mail on an Elkhart city route. Several customers reported to the postal service that they had not received their mail. While Scott initially claimed he delivered the mail in question, he later admitted he hid over 900 pieces of mail in a storage unit instead of delivering it.
After a search of the storage unit, the mail was found and the U.S. Postal Service was able to successfully deliver the mail to its customers.
This case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jerome W. McKeever.
