Trojans Dialed In From Long Distance
BOURBON – The three-point shot is a thing of beauty when it’s going in the hoop.
That was the case for the hot-shooting Triton boys basketball team Tuesday night.
The host Trojans dialed in from long distance in shooting past Plymouth 59-44.
Triton, ranked No. 4 in Class 1-A, drained 10-17 shots from long range in topping the Pilgrims. The Trojans shot a scorching 18-31 overall from the field in the win.
Tanner Shepherd tossed in a game-high 17 points and had six rebounds to pace Triton to the victory.
Darren Harrell scored 13 points, including going 4-4 from distance for the Trojans. Dillom Meadway had 12 points and Joey Corder added nine on 3-3 shooting from 3-point land for the winners.
Triton led 18-6 after the opening period and had a 31-16 halftime lead thanks to shooting a lights-out 11-17 from the field in the opening half. The Trojans were 7-11 from downtown in the first half.
Plymouth, which falls to 1-1, cut the Triton lead to 39-33 after three periods of play. The hosts responded with a big final push in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Pilgrims 20-11 in the final frame.
Triton, the Class 1-A state runner-up last season, improves to 2-0. The Trojans opened the season by routing Oregon-Davis 74-30 at home last Wednesday.
Plymouth drops to 1-1. The Pilgrims opened the season with a 54-40 win at Bremen Saturday night.
Mack Mercer led the Pilgrims Tuesday night with 15 points. Nick Felke scored 10 and Tyler England had eight.
Plymouth won the JV game by a 39-28 final. Reis Yoder and Braydon Davidson each had 11 points for the Pilgrims. Landon Kauffman scored nine points and Masen Yeo eight to lead Triton.
Triton hosts NorthWood and Plymouth hosts Rochester on Friday night.
