Shepherd Hits Milestone Mark
BOURBON – Tanner Shepherd reached a milestone moment for the Triton boys basketball team Thursday night.
The smooth senior eclipsed the 1,000 career point total as the host Trojans came up on the short end of a 58-44 final to Mishawaka Marian.
Shepherd poured in a game-high 25 points on the night to give him 1,011 for his prep career. He hit 10-12 free throws in the contest and had five rebounds.
Triton led 15-11 after the opening period of the non-conference affair. Marian took control with a strong middle two quarters. The Knights outscored the Trojans 35-18 over the middle two frames to build a 46-33 advantage.
Triton, which saw its four-game winning streak snapped, had a cold night shooting. The hosts connected on just 13-36 field goals overall, including only 4-15 from 3-point range.
Skyler Reichert netted nine points for the Trojans.
Nick Harris tallied 16 points and Devin Cannady canned 15 for Marian. The Knights hit 22-43 shots from the field.
Marian won the junior varsity game by a 47-22 final. Landon Kauffman scored 12 points to lead Triton.
Triton (8-6) hosts Northern State Conference foe LaVille Saturday night. Marian (6-6) plays at Elkhart Central Tuesday.
