Grace Soccer Set For Missions Trip
WINONA LAKE – During Grace College’s spring break, the women’s soccer team will embark on an international mission trip to Nicaragua from Feb. 28-March 10.
The Lady Lancers will be centered in Granada, Nicaragua, assisting The Bridge ministry center.
One of the primary opportunities is in helping The Bridge launch a 32-team soccer ministry for youth and adults in the Central American country.
“The bottom line is we are going to serve. We will be using futbol while we are there, but it’s about assisting the people of Nicaragua,” said Grace head coach Michael Voss. “We are pumped to help launch their futbol ministry and find opportunities to serve while we are down there.”
In addition to the soccer ministry, the Lady Lancers will also have opportunities to serve at a number of locations, including: a nursing home, girls’ orphanage, food center for the underprivileged and ministry center for kids with disabilities. The Lady Lancers will also put on Bible-lesson activities and host soccer clinics for local children throughout the trip.
“The prayer for our team is that this trip will deepen our faith and our walk in Christ,” Voss said. “We also at the same time want to broaden our understanding of the global position that God has entrusted us.”
Grace has set up a blog to provide periodic updates of their trip, which can be accessed here. To see the team’s blog from a 2008 trip to Peru, click here.
