Pence Opposes National Guard Cuts
In a letter sent to President Obama Friday, Indiana Governor Mike Pence joined a group of 50 bipartisan governors expressing opposition to proposed cuts to the Army National Guard. The cuts are expected to be included in President Obama and the Department of Defense’s fiscal year 2015 budget request.
“The Indiana Army National Guard is a highly experienced and skilled combat force as well as an essential state partner in responding to domestic disasters and emergencies,” said Governor Pence. “In an effort to preserve the Army Guard’s operational capabilities and strength, I have joined 49 of my fellow governors to oppose President Obama’s proposed cuts and request that he work with us to review and restructure the Army to meet current budget realities, but also utilize the Army Guard in a cost-effective manner that will serve our nation’s security needs both at home and abroad.”
