Flood Warning Issued Through Sunday
Another blast of wintry weather has left Kosciusko County and surrounding areas under another blanket of snow, and rising temperatures through the week mean more melting snow and the threat of flooding.
The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Flood Warning for the Tippecanoe River near Ora that will affect Kosciusko, Fulton, Marshall, Pulaski and Starke counties.
At 9 a.m. this morning, the stage was 11.2 feet and steady. The NWS said the river will rise above flood stage, which is 12 feet, and crest near 12.2 feet by Friday afternoon. High waters are not expected to begin receding until around 8 p.m. Sunday.
Watch for significant lowland and rural flooding and never drive through flooded areas. The water may be too deep to allow safe passage and it is always possible the road underneath has washed out.
Thursday’s high temperature will be at 29 degrees, but watch for a warmup on Friday and Saturday with highs in the mid- to upper 40s. Next week’s highs will also be well above freezing with daily temperatures in the 40s, with rain likely Tuesday and Wednesday.
