Indiana Conservation Officers were called to Blackburn & Green Law Offices on University Drive Court in Granger Tuesday afternoon when landscapers uncovered some buried artifacts.

Among some of the artifacts found include three large monuments, animal remains and glass.  According to conservation officers, it is possible that more artifacts pre-dating 1870 are still buried at that location. At this time, the area has been secured by Conservation Officers until the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology can determine all artifacts in the area are preserved.

Anyone caught trespassing inside the secured area can be charged. Indiana Conservation Officers not only protect our natural resources but our cultural resources as well.

Conservation Officers would like to remind everyone that it is illegal to dig for artifacts. Anyone with information on illegal or accidental artifact digs, please call 1-800-TIP-IDNR.

UPDATE: The DNR announced Wednesday that no further ground disturbance will be permitted without an approved plan from the DNR. An archaeologist from a college or university may wish to research and excavate the site after receiving a permit from the Department of Natural Resources Division of Archaeology. It is still possible that the location could be a burial ground.
