UPDATE: Tactical Team Called
Police officers from Claypool and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department were also on scene and tried to negotiate with the subject who allegedly called 9-1-1 himself.
At 10:48 p.m. scanner traffic indicated the subject was on the ground, as he was safely brought down by rescuers. At least four rescuers climbed the tower.
It was estimated the subject climbed approximately 200 feet up the tower.
Additional tactical rescue team members from St. Joseph County were called to the scene at approximately 10 p.m.
The MABAS 201 Technical Rescue Team, its official name, assists seven counties in Indiana and assists in hazardous material responses, fire investigation, rope rescue, confined space rescue, and trench rescue and has recently expanded its services in the area of EMS.
The subject was taken to The Bowen Center for evaluation.
