Grace Track Team Posts Bests
MARION – Several members of Grace’s track and field teams had personal-best finishes at the Little State Championships over the weekend.
Sabrina Whitaker was second in the high jump at 5-feet-2.5, and Donovan Graham placed third in the 800-meter run at 1:56.70.
“We had some really good performances this weekend as the athletes continue learning how to compete well in these bigger meets,” said Grace head coach Jeff Raymond. “We still have a ways to go, but I like our attitudes and strong efforts.”
Grace had a number of other top-10 finishes at the 11-team meet. Lance Taylor finished fourth in the 400 in 49.00, and Drew Perrin was eighth in the triple jump at 41-0.25.
The Lancers’ relay teams had strong showings. The women’s 4×400 squad of Erin Jones, Katelyn McCullough, Alicia Hertzler and Jo Boren was fourth, and the 4×800 team of Allison Zylstra, Jenna McClellan, Sarah Hoff and Rachel Fehring was sixth. The men’s 4×400 squad of KeJuan Leek, Taylor, Matt Lee and Graham and the 4×800 team of Jonathan Rex, Lee, Graham and Brandon Smith both placed fifth.
For the Lady Lancers, Boren was sixth in the 400 at 1:00.01, McCullough and Heather House were seventh and eighth respectively in the 100 hurdles, and Erin Jones (400m) and Jesse Feitz (javelin) both finished ninth in their own events.
Micah Pollard advanced to the finals of the 100 with a PR of 12.62, and Erin McPherson had a season-best toss of 36-11 in the shot put.
For the men’s team, KeJuan Leek had a PR in the 400 preliminary race, and Josh Peterson (shot put) and Macallister Seitz (discus) had PRs as well.
