North Webster Public Library News
The teens will sample and critique numerous pizzas from area vendors and vote on the ones they like best. If you’re a teen who has been participating in the summer reading club, sign up at the Youth Services Desk to dig into some of the tastiest pizzas around.
Some teens this summer have been doing more than eating pizza. Seventy-two teens are registered in the Library’s Teen Summer Reading Club, an 11 percent increase over last year, and have logged over 978 hours of reading so far this summer.
These readers will have a jump on their classmates when school starts. According to the children’s literacy organization Reading Is Fundamental, children who read during the summer gain reading skills while those who don’t often slide backward. Students can lose up to 25 percent of their reading level over the summer, but continued reading can prevent this. The Youth Services Department has over 23,000 books to choose from, so bring the kids in and keep them engaged in reading all summer long.
The adults will be doing some food sampling of their own during the Revolving Recipe Round-Up at 6 p.m. July 24. Prepare a dish from an old family recipe and bring it along to share. Participants will enjoy sampling each other’s family favorites and swapping recipes.
This group meets the fourth Tuesday every month and focuses on a different type of food each month. Whereas this month’s focus is old family recipes, August will highlight salads. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy a time of food, fun, and friends. Just bring your culinary creation, serving utensils, and a copy of your recipe. The Library provides table service and bottled water.
Thanks to everyone who took advantage of the Friends of the Library’s recent Mega Book Sale. It was a huge success and raised funds to help support the Library.
If you missed the Mega Sale, the Friends of the Library will be holding a one-day sale from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. July 28 during the community wide Dixie Days. They still have plenty of great books for you to choose from, so don’t miss this chance to save money while helping the Library.
