Panthers Outscore Tigers
WARSAW – The offense was in high gear for both host Warsaw and NorthWood in a Northern Lakes Conference baseball slugfest Tuesday.
The Panthers outscored the Tigers 12-9 to earn the conference win.
The two teams combined for 25 hits on a day with incredibly windy conditions.
Caleb Heckman smacked three hits, including a pair of two-run home runs, to lead the way for Warsaw.
Brandon Shipp also had three hits for the Tigers, who suffered their first NLC loss of the season.
James Brandes and Tyler LaFollette each also slugged a home run for Warsaw. LaFollette had a two-run roundtripper and Brandes a solo shot.
Will Kirkwood had two homers and drove in five runs to lead the offense for NorthWood. Hunter Lane had three hits for the Panthers.
The Tigers, now 6-4 overall and 3-1 in NLC play, host league foe Northridge Wednesday at 5 p.m. NorthWood plays at Jimtown Thursday.
The Warsaw junior varsity team edged NorthWood by a 10-9 final Tuesday.
Marcello Rodriguez had a huge night at the plate for the JV Tigers with four hits, including two roundtrippers. Kenton Cornell notched the pitching win for Warsaw.
The JV Tigers, now 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the NLC, will host Northridge Wednesday at 5 p.m.
