Tippy Township Retains All Incumbents But Kubacki
It was quite a race for the second seat on the Tippecanoe Township Board of Trustees but incumbent Steve Carson pulled out a victory while the other incumbent James M. “Jim” Rhodes easily kept his seat. Challengers were Richard Owen and Jonathan T. (Jon) Tyler.
The township went overwhelmingly for Curt Nisly over incumbent State Representative District 22 Rebecca Kubacki. Nisly’s supporters clearly made it to the polls. “Our numbers were down this year,” reported election judge Jerry Rhodes. “It was steady, but we didn’t have the turnout like we’ve had recently.” Voting for all four precincts took place at North Webster Community Center.
Tippecanoe 1
Tippecanoe 1 had a total of 1,119 registered voters with 229 or 20.48 percent voting. Republican incumbent U.S. Congressman Marlin A. Stutzman swamped the other two candidates with 84.01 percent of the vote to single digit totals of 8.25 percent for Mark William Baringer and 7.73 percent for James “Jim” E. Mahoney III.
Kosciusko County races had David C. Cates in front with 53.89 percent of the vote for Superior Court One judge over Chad Miner, 38.5 percent; and Stephen P. Harris, 17.62 percent.
Torry J. Bauer captured 46.03 percent of the Superior Court Two judge with Tyler S. Haines having 38.62 percent and Mark E. Caruso, 15.34 percent.
In a hotly contested Kosciusko County Commissioner race for the southern district seat, incumbent Robert M. “Bob” Conley out polled Jonathan “Jon” Fussle with 62.03 percent to 37.97 percent of the vote.
Tippecanoe Township 1 gave James M. “Jim” Rhodes, 31.74 percent, Steve Carson, 25.10 percent, Richard Owen 24.90 percent and Jonathan T. “Jon” Tyler 18.24 percent for advisory board positions.
Democrat voters gave the nod for U.S. Representative District 3 to Tommy A. Schrader with 59.09 percent of the vote. Justin Kuhnle garnered 22.73 percent while Jim Redmond had 18.18 percent.
Tippecanoe 2
With 20.74 percent of the 1,273 registered voters bothering to show up, Precinct 2 followed the pattern set in Precinct 1. On the Republican side, Stutzman repeated for the United States Representative District 3 seat with 84.75 percent of the vote. In the Sstate representative race, Nisly had 54.98 percent to Rebecca Kubacki’s 45.02 percent.
Cates and Bauer both handily defeated two opponents each for Superior Court Judge. For judge of court one, Cates took 56.61 percent and for judge of court two, Bauer earned 57.44 percent. County Commissioner Conley knocked off Fussle 54.17 percent to 45.83 percent. That was a total of 20 votes more for Conley.
Jim Rhodes ran away with 30.62 percent of the vote for Tippecanoe Township Advisory Board as the top vote getter in that contest. Carson had 24.23 percent, Tyler 23.13 percent and Owen 21.82 percent.
The nine Democrats casting a vote in Tippecanoe 2 went for Redmond for Congress with 70 percent of the vote. Schrader had 20 percent and Kuhnle 10 percent.
Tippecanoe 3
Precinct 3 had just 21.07 percent of registered Republicans exercising their right to vote. Once again, Stutzman dominated with 82.51 percent. Nisly polled 59.49 percent to Kubacki’s 40.51 percent in the state representative stand off.
Superior Court One gudge candidate Cates pulled 47.53 percent over Miner, 32.74 percent and Harris, 19.73 percent. Bauer got 50 percent of the precinct’s vote for Superior Court 2 judge over Haines, 38.39 percent and Caruso, 11.61 percent. County Commissioner Conley led with 60.18 percent to Fussle’s 39.82 percent.
It was a close race in Precinct 3 for township trustee advisory board. Rhodes had 28.76 percent, Carson, 26.13 percent, Owen 25.38 percent and Tyler, 19.74 percent. Democrat party votes were not available at press time.Tippecanoe 4
With only 16.95 percent of registered Republicans heading to the polls, Tippecanoe Township Precinct 4 had the lowest turnout of the four. For Congress, Stutzman received 80.92 percent while Nisley got 72.93 percent to Kubacki’s 27.07 percent for state representative candidate.
In the Kosciusko County contests, Cates took 46.78 percent for Superior Court 1 judge while Bauer received 52.05 percent for court 2 judge. Conley came through with 54.39 percent for county commissioner over challenger Fussle.
Rhodes was top vote getter for the township board, but in this precinct Owen beat Carson with 25.23 percent to 24.07 percent. That was five votes. It was the only precinct Carson lost.
Democrats selected Redmond for Congress with 44.44 percent or four votes. Schrader had three votes and Kuhnle two.
